Wire Rope Assemblies

Wire Rope Specifications
Rope Specifications and Options
No single wire rope has it all, so you need to choose your rope like you would any other machine—very carefully. Decide what is more important to your application, abrasion resistance or fatigue resistance, then choose the appropriate rope.
Wire Rope Classifications:
  • 6 X 19 - greater abrasion resistance
  • 3 X 36 - greater fatigue resistance
  • 7 X 7 or 7 X 19 Aircraft or Utility Cable - smaller, control type cable

  • Button Ferrule
    Button Ferrule
Excellent as drum attachment devices, AS-409 Button Ferrules develop the nominal strength of wire rope. Applicable as stops and pullers.
    Material Construction:
  • Carbon Steel or Stainless Steel

  • Shank Hooks
    Shank Hook
For use with 6 X 19 or 6 X 37, RRI, FC or IWRC wire rope.
    Material Construction:
  • Qenched and Tempered Forged Carbon Steel

  • Threaded Sleeve and Threaded Stud
    Threaded Sleeve and Threaded Stud
The Threaded Sleeve is used to maximize the length adjustment of assemblyat the point where a wire rope is attached. For simpler, more economical threaded assemblies, the Threaded Stud is a good choice.
    Material Construction:
  • Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel or Higher Strength Steels

  • Fork Ends and Eye Ends
    Fork Ends and Eye Ends
Ideal for clevis-type attachments with the advantages of a compact aircraft terminal when used together.

    Stud Ends and Turnbuckle Ends
    Stud Ends and Turnbuckle Ends
There are many similarities between the Stud End and the Turnbuckle End. Unlike the Stud End, theTurnbuckle End has a longer overall length as well as thread length.

Double Shank Ball and Single Shank Ball
Double Shank Ball and Single Shank Ball
Both the Single Shank Ball and the Double Shank Ball can be swaged at the end of the wire rope or at any point along the assembly.

    Open and Closed Sockets
    Open and Closed Sockets
Designed to complement each other. Built with one-piece, drop-forged steel, these sockets are rugged and compact. Sockets can be used anywhere zinc-poured open and closed sockets are used, unless critical dimensions dictate otherwise.

    Strap Eye and Strap Fork
    Strap Eye and Strap Fork
Designed for use with the Single Shank Ball fitting as well as in combination with each other. Both fittings swivel easily to any plane. Both are made with durable corrosion-resistant stainless steel, grade 303Se or 305, stamped and formed to dimension.

    Ring Eye
    Ring Eye
Prominently used with hanger-type applications. Ring Eyes feature a large eye opening to make attachment easy and provide a large internal bearing surface. They’re made of one-piece, drop-forged steel construction.

    Oval Eye
    Oval Eye
For hanger-type applications that require smaller diameter pins and a narrower profile than large ring eyes, the SW-405 Oval Eye is the best choice.

    Pin Eye
    Pin Eye
Ideal for clevis-type attachments. The Pin Eye has a large pin bearing area with a durable, weldless, drop-forged steel construction. Pin eye assemblies can be made to custom dimensions which can be fully machined to specific applications.

    Jaws
    Jaws
The SW-406 Jaw can be used two ways. One, with the Pin Eye when needed for multiple lengths of assemblies. And two, for single lug attachment of a wirerope assembly.

    Cable, Cable Attachments and Assemblies
    Architectural Cable
Architectural Cable can be readily obtained coated in hard PVC or uncoated.
    Types of Cable:
  • Semi-rigid 1x19 stainless steel cable is chosen for most
        straight runs and railing applications
  • Semi-flexible 7x7 is used for corners over 90 degrees.
  • 7x19 is flexible and used for decorative purposes
  • 3⁄16” cable is the most popular size for cable railings.

  • Architectural Cable Attachments & Assemblies
Although there are many different ways to make a cable assembly, two elements must be present to have a proper cable assembly:
    1. A turnbuckle or an adjustable threaded stud to tension the cable.
    2. An attachment point at each end, with an end fitting, that will support
        the tension of the cable.

    Toggle Jaws
    Toggle Jaw
Frequently used in connection with a variety of turnbuckles.
